Writing Help: Are You Feeling
Confused, Stuck, And Overwhelmed By Your Writing Project?
Do you need writing help? Are you writing
a book? Are you writing a dissertation? Are you feeling
confused, stuck, and overwhelmed in your writing? Do you
know that you have a good idea, but you can’t seem to put
it all together?
Writing clarity is the solution for confusion,
overwhelm, and writer’s block in any writing project. Whether
you are writing a book or a dissertation, the same questions
apply.
- What is the purpose of your book?
- What is the point of your book?
- What is the best process for writing your book?
- Who is the reader you want to read your book?
- How do you persuade your reader to agree with you?
How Do You Get Writing Clarity?
How do you get writing clarity? You look
at your project with a new perspective.
One of the best ways to get another outlook
is get a coach. A writing coach can look at your project
with fresh eyes, and help you see what you are too close
to see.
A Different Outlook
One of the best examples of the value
of a different outlook is from a personal experience when
I was writing my doctoral dissertation. I knew that I was
onto a significant insight and that I had a really solid
thesis. I wasn’t experiencing “writer’s block.” I also knew
that I was a good writer, and I didn't usually get stuck
in writing projects. I just knew that the chapters I had
written were not very good, but I didn’t know exactly what
was wrong.
At that point, I asked one of my dissertation
advisors for help. I told him that I knew that something
was not working in my chapters, but I didn't know what.
He took my chapters and told me to come back in a week.
The Five Word Solution
The following week, I went back to see
him. We talked for only 10-15 minutes, in one of the most
empowering conversations of my life. In that conversation,
my advisor identified my problem in five words: “You are
not thinking argumentatively.” And he did it with great
clarity, affirmation, and kindness.
He was a Professor of Rhetoric at the
University of California at Berkeley, and a prolific published
writer. He identified my problem as a rhetoric problem.
Although he didn't explain what he meant, I understood immediately
what he was saying. “You are not thinking argumentatively”
meant that I was not thinking about the project as an effort
to persuade my readers about the point of my dissertation.
One Conversation Was Enough
That one conversation was enough for me
to put my chapters aside and start over. I wrote the entire
dissertation in six weeks, because I could see the project
from another angle.
My committee accepted my dissertation
without revision at my dissertation defense, and the dissertation
was then published as a distinguished dissertation in its
field.
I’m not telling you the story to brag
about my dissertation success, but to demonstrate the importance
of a writing coach. Although he was a professor, he did
what the best coaches do. He brought another frame of reference
to my project, which gave me a new way to think about what
I was doing. He could see clearly what I could not because
I was so close to the project. That new perspective made
all the difference for me.
“Writing Clarity Coaching”
This is why I offer “Writing Clarity
Coaching.” My goal is to help you see clearly whatever
is keeping you from successfully completing your project.
I can’t promise that I can show you how
to solve your writing problems with one conversation, but
I can promise that I will help you become clearer about
what you are doing.
I offer a way of looking at your writing
project, using the basic concepts of rhetoric, starting
with the most basic question. What is the point of your
book?
I can also teach you to use stories and
to write with your own authentic voice.

Kalinda Rose Stevenson's "Writing
Clarity Coaching"
"Kalinda
Rose Stevenson has helped me tremendously in my book
writing journey. I have read every single one of her
books and e-books, and her principles have helped
me in a radical way. Kalinda helps me to get clear
about the message of my book and the best possible
way to communicate it on paper. She also reminds me
to be authentic and real, and not to be afraid to
let my personality show through in my writing.
I wrote a book called "Train Your Brain, Transform
Your Life: Conquer Attention Deficit Disorder in 60
Days, Without Ritalin." Kalinda initially read
my rough draft, and told me that I was too detached
and objective.... and that my readers were looking
for more compassion. No one had ever said this to
be before! Kalinda encouraged me to include my personal
story in my book. When I wrote it down, I felt so
vulnerable... and was afraid of looking foolish. But
Kalinda read my story and assured me that it was exactly
what my readers needed to identify with me, because
I had walked in their shoes.
Kalinda's writing, emails and encouragement gave me
courage to write in a more spontaneous, authentic
and compassionate way. It's funny, I have been writing
for newspapers and magazines for the past 15 years
(and also have a Master's in journalism) but it was
Kalinda who helped me get my writing to the next level.
Kalinda is the best writing coach I've ever had. She
is honest, sensitive and knowledgeable, and genuinely
cares about her clients. She gently pointed out my
shortcomings on paper, and reminded me that I could
do better. Then she gave me some ideas to spark my
creative imagination. Most of all, Kalinda is passionate
about writing and about getting your message across
in a clear, succinct and understandable way. She will
go the extra mile to help you get to the heart of
your subject matter.
Don't fall prey to empty promises about writing courses
and coaching programs that promise you will write
a book quickly, easily and effortlessly. Some gurus
will brag about the bestsellers they've written, and
claim that if you plunk down thousands of dollars
you can glean from their wealth of experience. They
promise the moon but after you've paid your money,
they have little time or interest in helping you write
your book.
Writing a book is always a big project. It's never
the push-button system that some gurus promise. Try
Kalinda's “Writing Clarity Coaching” and
you will experience a fresh, insightful and sensitive
approach to writing your book.
